Deputy defense minister lauds Navy conduct in flotilla raid.

Deputy Defense Minister Manan Vilna'i on Tuesday hinted that Israel had sabotaged some of the ships which were meant to take part in a Gaza-bound flotilla which the Navy raided the previous day. When asked during an Israel Radio interview whether it might not have been possible to stop the ships in a more sophisticated manner, Vilna'i responded, “Every possibility was considered. The fact is that there were ten less ships in the flotilla than were originally planned.”

The deputy defense minister stressed that there was no choice but to stop the ships, as otherwise supplies would have been transferred to terror bases in the Gaza Strip, which threaten “the very heart” of Israel.

Also commenting on the Monday raid, Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch said Tuesday that anyone who raised a hand against our soldiers will be punished to the full letter of the law.

Aharonovitch told Israel Radio that Israel had begun to obtain evidence, and has already identified several of the perpetrators.

Regarding Israeli Arab protests, the public security minister said that he did not doubt they would take place, however he expects that nothing significant would break out.
